My first palpable memory is of the broken brownie box camera that my parents gave me to play with as a toddler. I can still intensely remember the smell. Unknown to me at the time that was the smell of photographic emulsion and the glue that was used to fix the leather to the outside of the box. I would hold it up to the light, gaze into the blackness of the box and was endlessly fascinated by the split second appearance of a flash of light that appeared when triggered by the wee button on the outside. The most satisfying, ‘click’, of all my toys.
Over 40 years later I am still fascinated by that moment. That sound. Those smells. This site is something of a work in progress and is currently developing as I sort out my archive and try to organise my images going onwards. Here are a few small collections bound together by some thoughts.
